Saskatoon crews were called to a fire at the Cosmo Shred facility between Ontario and Alberta Avenues early Sunday morning. The call came in just before 6 a.m., according to the Saskatoon Fire Department. When the first crews arrived at the scene they could see smoke and flames rising from the exterior. Firefighters pulled out a hose and began dousing flames on the outside of the building, while another crew searched inside for occupants, finding none. Behind them, another crew followed with multiple hose lines, checking for any hot spots where the fire could spread. After the fire was out, they set up large fans to sweep any lingering smoke and toxins from the building, the fire department says. The site was quiet on Victoria Day, but signs of the fire were still visible outside the building. A section of metal siding on the warehouse appeared burnt and shredded, and an adjacent bay door, once white, sat blackened with soot. No one was injured in the blaze, and an estimate of the cost of damages is not yet available.
