More tolerable winter conditions back in Manitoba after cold blast

It’s not time to tiptoe through the tulips just yet, but after days of dangerously cold weather, no cold warnings are in effect in Manitoba on Monday.

More tolerable winter conditions have returned to the province. That said, a weak cold front is passing over Manitoba on Monday that will bring flurries or light snow to most regions.

The front will also whip up northwest winds across the province, though they will be strongest in the south, which could cause blowing snow on Monday afternoon into the evening.

Daytime highs in the south on Monday will reach around -15 C in most areas, with wind chills that will feel close to -30, thanks to strong winds.

Highs across northern regions are a few degrees colder, in the upper minus teens and low -20s.

After record-breaking low temperatures in parts of the south over the weekend, temperatures overnight into Tuesday morning across the region will be less severe, dropping to the low -20s.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, temperatures will be a few degrees colder in the south after Monday, closer to the upper minus teens.

The break from extreme cold could be short-lived. Environment and Climate Change Canada said another arctic high will move south midweek, and bring bitter cold back to Manitoba.
