Manitoba suspect found in home with hidden rooms, trap door: RCMP

A Dauphin man is facing several charges tonight after he was found in a hidden room in a home while evading RCMP.

Police say a theft suspect was discovered inside a Dauphin, Man., home with two hidden rooms, a trap door and several weapons inside of it.

The search began around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday when officers went to a home on Hawthorn Avenue to arrest a suspect wanted on several theft-related charges.

When Mounties arrived, they spoke to a man who said he was there alone.

Officers then proceeded to search the home and found a hidden room behind a fake wall. Inside this room, police said they found several weapons and a trap door that led to another hidden room, where they located the suspect.

After about 20 minutes, the suspect came out of the room, surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

A 48-year-old man is facing charges of resisting arrest and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was also charged with several other theft-related offences, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The charges have not been proven in court.
