Man turns himself in after shots fired, submachine gun found in Winnipeg home

A 19-year-old man has turned himself in to police in connection with an incident that began with gunshots and ended with the seizure of drugs, money and a loaded submachine gun.

The incident took place on April 24 around 12:45 a.m. when a suspect fired several rounds into a home on Winnipeg’s Simcoe Street. No one was physically hurt.

Once at the scene, the Winnipeg Police Service found drugs, cash and drug paraphernalia and arrested two teenagers.

The major crimes unit took over the investigation and executed a search warrant at the home. During this search they seized several items, including:

A loaded 9mm MP 40 submachine gun with a tampered serial number;

• Two bolt-action hunting-style rifles;
• A Glock 9mm handgun;
• A Smith & Wesson Revolver-style handgun;
• 9mm ammunition;
• 12-gauge shotgun shells;
• A machete;
• 26 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2080;
• 15 grams of crack with an estimated street value of $1,200;
• $9,683 in cash;
• Dime baggies, scales, tin foil and other drug paraphernalia;
• Five cellphones; and
• 3D-printed brass knuckles.

Two suspects, ages 16 and 17, were charged with multiple offences related to firearms, drug trafficking, and possession of stolen property.

Police issued an arrest warrant for a third suspect who turned himself in on Tuesday. The 19-year-old man was arrested and faces numerous charges. He is in custody.

None of the charges against the three suspects have been proven in court.
