Winnipeg man arrested after teen sexually assaulted, threatened

A 61-year-old man is in custody charged with luring and sexual assaulting a teenage boy in Winnipeg.

A 61-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault and forcible confinement of a teenager.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) began its investigation earlier in May after learning of a teen who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man known to their family.

Police said the suspect began developing a relationship with the victim, providing them with money and a cellphone. On numerous occasions between March 31 and April 30, the teenager was taken to a location in the 200 block of Burrows Avenue where they were sexually assaulted, according to WPS.

During the assaults, police allege the victim was forcibly confined and threatened with violence over telling anyone about the situation.

On Tuesday morning, police arrested the suspect on Burrows Avenue. He has been charged with child luring, sexual assault with a weapon, four counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference, four counts of forcible confinement and four counts of uttering threats. The charges have not been proven in court.

The suspect is in police custody and is awaiting further disposition.
