How strong was Friday’s wind?

Manitoba highways dealt with blowing snow and poor visibility for much of the day Friday.

Numbers are out for the maximum wind gusts that led to highway closures on Friday, with some stations reaching nearly 100 km/h.

On Saturday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a weather summary sharing maximum wind gusts reported in southern Manitoba for Friday.

The highest in Manitoba was at the Gimli climate station, with a maximum gust of 98 km/h. Clearwater followed with 93 km/h, with Lakeland, Woodlands and St-Pierre stations all reporting 91 km/h.

Brandon, St-Claude and Baldur all reported maximum gusts of 89 km/h.

The third strongest were Holland, Killarney and Starbuck, reporting maximum wind gusts of 87 km/h.

Winnipeg airport reached a maximum gust of 83 km/h, along with Pilot Mound, Plumas, Dominion City, Brunkild, Windygates, Wawanesa and Birtle.
