The Department of Natural Resources sent water bombers to fight a wildfire in a remote area near Riverside-Albert, N.B., Sunday. The fire was detected at 4:28 p.m. and its status was “out of control.” Riverside-Albert Assistant Deputy Chief Peter Brzezicki said they received a report of smoke off Route 915 Sunday afternoon. Between three and four hectares were on fire in a very secluded area where logging takes place, Brzezicki said. “The planes arrived amazingly quickly and probably that’s what saved the day here,” said Brzezicki. “It’s most likely going to be quite a few more hours, if not days,” he said. There are no homes in the area, but there are some unoccupied cottages. “I don’t think the fire affected them,” said Brzezicki. Firefighters from Alma, Hillsborough and Riverview were on scene Sunday with DNR members. The fire was 100 per cent contained by Monday morning, according to DNR’s public fires dashboard.
