Parents, scouts and fans watched the best high school football players in Saskatchewan square off in this year’s Senior Bowl Game on Sunday. The longstanding traditional game features the top 80 graduating players from high-schools across Saskatchewan. Athletes from schools in the north end of the province played against players from schools in the south. “It’s an amazing evolution of high school ball ... to come to fruition — and this is the end — to then move on to post-secondary soon after, it’s exciting,” said Ian Litzenberger, whose son Zane played on Team North. With coaches and scouts watching the game, Litzenberger said the event provides a great opportunity for the next generation of athletes. “These are our future leaders, right? We got 80 future leaders on the field right now and they’re all grinding it out to win ... but it’s about having fun, camaraderie, meeting new guys, and leadership,” Litzenberger said. “Having this opportunity just adds to what they’re going to do in the future.” Erica Honoway, another proud parent, expressed her enthusiasm for seeing her son out on the field. “Both of my brothers played in Senior Bowl back in the day so it was pretty special Bennett made the team as well,” Honoway said, referring to her son who played for Team South. With football running in her family, Honoway said she is thankful to see her son pursue the sport at the post-secondary level. “Bennett has signed with the University of Regina Rams for the fall of 2026 as a linebacker,” she said. “ … We’re just so lucky to be a part of this. He’s loving it.” Aaron Demyen, whose son Nathan one of the quarterbacks for Team South, added the game is a great way for players to wrap up the season. “It’s a great opportunity for all these kids to go out, finish off their high school career and have some fun with their friends,” said Demyen. “A lot of these kids have played with and against each other throughout the years, so it’s a nice way to end the season.” Team North beat Team South 44 to 11.
