A section of Highway 17 at the Highway 11 intersection in Shabaqua, Ont., was closed for several hours on Saturday following a “serious” two-vehicle crash. Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to the collision involving a transport truck and a passenger vehicle at about 11:19 a.m. on May 23. Highway reopened “As a result of the collision, Highway 17 was closed in both directions between Sistonen’s Corner and Shabaqua Corners for several hours,” OPP said in a news release. Police said the roadway partially reopened shortly after 3 p.m. with alternating eastbound and westbound traffic, before fully reopening at 7:15 p.m. Multiple injuries “The driver of the passenger vehicle was airlifted to hospital and remains in critical condition,” said police, adding that the passenger of the same vehicle was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Investigation ongoing Police said the investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit – including members of the technical collision investigation and reconstruction team.
