Manitoba bridge closed due to structural concern: province

The province has closed a highway bridge southwest of Winnipeg until further notice due to structural concerns.

The bridge over the Morris River on Highway 3, just south of Brunkild, was closed yesterday due to “structural instability,” according to the provincial government.

A provincial spokesperson said bridges are inspected every two years, and a notification outside that inspection window led to the emergency bridge closure. No further details on the structural concern were provided.

Both westbound and eastbound lanes on the highway are closed to traffic. A detour is in place directing traffic to Highway 13 and Highway 2, according to the province.

The province said plans are underway to replace the bridge.
