'Why us?' Father speaks out following the death of Katie Robson

CTV Windsor: Katie Robson’s father speaks The father of Katie Leigh Robson, the victim in a fatal Lauzon Road crash speaks out about the loss of his daughter. Chris Campbell reports.

For the first time since his daughter’s death, Paul Robson is speaking about the tragic event.

In an interview with CTV News, Robson described waking up in the early morning hours on April 4, to find out his daughter, 20-year-old Katie Leigh Robson died in a collision.

“My wife woke me up and when I came into the kitchen and saw two officers. I knew... this is it," he says.

Robson held a photo of his daughter in his hand, fighting back tears while talking to CTV reporter Chris Campbell.

“Automatically it's not fair. Every family that goes through this tragedy, goes through the same thing. Why me? Why us?”

Katie was laid to rest Wednesday, surrounded by friends and family. Essex County Juniors formed an honour guard using pool cues. She was remembered for her affectionate smile.

Katie died in fatal collision on April 4 on Lauzon Road. She was a passenger in a Chevrolet Blazer – one of two vehicles involved the crash. Police arrived to find the Blazer on its roof in the northbound lanes of the roadway. Several others were injured.

Kyle Matthew Colthurst, 28, the driver of a Chevrolet Impala, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and refusing to provide a breath sample.

The driver of the Blazer, 22-year-old Calvin Joseph Crosby, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

A pasta fundraiser is planned for Sunday at Abars, located at 7880 Riverside Dr. E, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Organizers have already raised $2,000, but hope they can reach $10,000. Tickets are $10, with all funds going back to the family.

Katie, an avid pool player will have her name cemented into the sport locally. LaSalle’s Brews N Cues has renamed a billiards tournament to the First Annual Katie Robson Memorial Scotch Doubles Tournament.

That pool tournament is scheduled for April 13.
