Two suspects arrested after downtown break-ins

Windsor police have arrested two suspects after a series of commercial break-and-enters in the downtown area.

Officers say a man and woman, both wearing face masks, attempted to break into a business in the 90 block of Park Street using vice grips shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 20.

After failing to manipulate the door’s locking mechanism, the suspects left the area.

Police say they returned twice, shortly before 3:30 a.m. and again after 6 a.m., entering with bags and leaving within minutes, stealing more than $4,000 in merchandise.

At 6 a.m. on Jan. 24, police say the same male suspect, again wearing a face mask, used a pry bar to force entry into a business in the 1300 block of Ouellette Avenue. He stole a cash box containing approximately $150 before fleeing the scene.

The next day, shortly before 8 a.m., police say the same male suspect broke into a business in the 300 block of Riverside Drive West. The suspect, again wearing a face mask, stole a cash box containing approximately $700 in cash.

Through investigation, the Windsor Police Target Base Unit identified both suspects.

On Jan. 28, officers located and arrested the male suspect in the 300 block of Church Street. The female suspect was located and arrested in the same area the following morning.

A 54-year-old man has been charged with the following offences:

• Break-and-enter (x4)

• Wearing a disguise to commit an offence (x3)

• Possession of a break-in instrument (x2)

A 39-year-old woman has been charged with the following offences:

• Break-and-enter (x2)

• Wearing a disguise to commit an offence
