Victim identified, suspect charged in Chilliwack assault

Mounties in Chilliwack are identifying the now-deceased victim of an alleged assault last month and have announced charges against one suspect.

The alleged assault happened on Feb. 21 on Railway Avenue, prompting an appeal for information from authorities after the victim died in hospital earlier this month.

On Thursday, the Chilliwack RCMP identified the victim as 49-year-old Dwight Nelson.

“Investigators would like to thank members of the community and local businesses who came forward and provided information to police,” a statement from the detachment said.

“This assistance was instrumental in advancing the investigation and identifying the accused.”

Kevin Procure has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and remains in custody, police said.
