Students and staff at four schools in Abbotsford were ordered to shelter in place Monday morning due to threats of violence, according to authorities. Around 9 a.m., police were notified that “an email had been received containing threats of potential violence directed towards local public schools,” the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement. The four schools affected were Abbotsford Senior Secondary, Abbotsford Middle School, W.J. Mouat Secondary, and Chief Dan George Middle School—all of which were ordered to temporarily shelter in place. “AbbyPD officers immediately attended the identified schools to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and began to investigate,” the statement from police said. The investigation determined there was not an active threat, and authorities are investigating the incident as a case of swatting.
