Suspect charged in shooting, assault along Highway 97, B.C. RCMP say

Weeks after Mounties responded to two violent incidents along Highway 97 through Osoyoos, authorities have announced charges against a suspect.

The B.C. RCMP said both incidents were reported to the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen regional detachment on Sept. 11, beginning with an alleged assault with a weapon.

Not long after, officers responded to a shooting about a 15-minute drive down the highway, authorities said.

Investigators identified a suspect believed to be involved in both incidents the following day, Cpl. Brett Urano said in a news release.

“This was excellent work by the PSOS officers who worked as a team in investigating, identifying and arresting the suspect,” said Urano. “They worked tirelessly to advance this investigation and remove this individual from the streets.”

Cash James has since been charged with discharge of a firearm with intent to wound, assault with a weapon, and other weapons-related offences, according to the RCMP.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing, authorities said.
