Surrey man shot and killed by police, stabbing victim lived in the same building

Surrey police say a suspect stabbed two people in an assault near Holland Park Friday afternoon. He was then fatally shot by police in the park.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the stabbing suspect who was shot and killed by police in Surrey on Friday lived in the same building as one of his alleged victims.

Investigators believe the man was responsible for both May 29 stabbings, and said there are no outstanding suspects.

In a news release Monday, IHIT said the motive has not been determined but that it appears to have been an “unprovoked attack.”

“Though the alleged suspect is now deceased, IHIT will continue a fulsome investigation into the sequence of events,” said Sgt. Freda Fong, in a statement.

One of the victims, a 55-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the residential building where he and the suspect lived on Old Yale Road. Police said the other, a 35-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

BC Housing told CTV News the incident happened at and near Ted Kuhn Towers, located at the 13300 block of Old Yale Road.
