Sports car seized from 20-year-old Langley man after repeated dangerous driving: RCMP

A 20-year-old Langley man has had his sports car seized after a series of incidents in the Fraser Valley, according to local RCMP.

The incident that triggered the seizure occurred on June 13, Agassiz RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

Shortly before 11:40 p.m., Mounties from that detachment received “a report of possible gunshots in the area of Chief Hali Road along Highway 7,” according to the release.

When they arrived, officers saw “numerous vehicles and motorcycles” driving away at high speeds.

“While officers were on scene, a black two-door coupe was observed driving dangerously in the middle of the road,” the release reads. “A traffic stop was attempted, however the vehicle accelerated quickly and departed.”

Police did not pursue the vehicle, but made note of its licence plate and gathered video surveillance showing the vehicle’s driving behaviour.

The video also showed that what had been reported as the sound of gunshots was actually “individuals lighting what appeared to be fireworks in the area.”

Police did not specify the make and model of the coupe, nor did they name the owner in their release. They did, however, say that the vehicle was “already known to Agassiz RCMP.”

On May 11, officers stopped the same vehicle for dangerous driving on Pioneer Avenue, issued multiple tickets to the driver and impounded it.

“Less than a month later, on June 10, shortly after being released from impound, the vehicle was again reported for excessive speeding through a construction zone in Agassiz before leaving the area prior to police arrival,” the release reads.

While Agassiz RCMP continued investigating the June 13 incident, the Langley detachment was also investigating the vehicle.

“Several videos were found on social media showing the vehicle participating in street racing activities in the Lower Mainland,” the release reads. “Through collaboration between Langley RCMP and Agassiz RCMP, the vehicle was located in Langley on June 19, 2026, and seized.”

The registered owner of the vehicle has been charged with a variety of Motor Vehicle Act offences, including driving without due care and attention, failing to stop for police, speeding against a highway sign, failing to obey a stop sign, failing to signal on a turn and crossing a double solid line.

These offences, which are generally charged as violation tickets rather than criminal offences, come with a combined total of $1,047 in fines.

CTV News has reached out to Agassiz RCMP for more information on the seizure of the vehicle, whether it remains in police custody and how long it will be held. This story will be updated if a response is received.

“Dangerous driving behaviours such as excessive speeding, stunting, and failing to stop for police put innocent road users at serious risk,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, in the release.

“The fact that a driver chooses not to stop does not mean they avoid accountability. Our officers will continue to investigate dangerous driving incidents, gather evidence, and pursue enforcement action whenever possible. In this case, the public’s reports, video evidence, and assistance from Langley RCMP were instrumental in identifying the vehicle involved and removing it from the road.”
