Search for missing 20-year-old near Squamish called off, RCMP say

The search for a missing 20-year-old man near Shannon Falls has been called off, Squamish RCMP say.

Alex Nguyen was hiking with his family on Canada Day and was last seen on the Sea to Summit Trail that afternoon, according to authorities.

Police and Squamish Search and Rescue launched a search for the missing man, and on Wednesday they asked hikers in the area to familiarize themselves with his photo and description.

On Friday, police provided an update on the case, saying search and rescue crews had suspended their efforts.

More than 50 people searched for Nguyen from the ground, and “several helicopters and drones” searched from the air, police said.

“The full area was thoroughly searched and the individual was not located, therefore at this time the search has been called off,” the RCMP update reads.

“No further details available at this time.”
