B.C. nurse suspended after ‘unsubstantiated’ claim about patient violence

A licensed practical nurse from B.C.’s Okanagan has been given a two-week suspension for issues on the job, which included filing a claim about patient violence that was found to be “unsubstantiated.”

Gabriella Lima agreed to the suspension over incidents dating back to March and April 2025, according to a public notice from the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives.

They included alleging an “incident of violence by a patient that was unsubstantiated,” and conducting an “insufficient handover” when Lima had to leave work for an unexpected incident, the college said.

“BCCNM standards set expectations to ensure nurses are practising competently, ethically, responsibly, and safely,” the notice reads. “Nurses must meet these standards.”

In addition to the suspension, Lima agreed to a reprimand and to undergo education on professionalism and duty to provide care.
