Brampton man charged after alleged hate-motivated road rage incident leaves pedestrian seriously injured

A 22-year-old man has been charged after a hate-motivated confrontation escalated into a serious hit-and-run collision on Nov. 8, near Pearson Road and Charolais Boulevard, in Brampton.

Peel police say a Brampton man has been charged after a hate-motivated confrontation escalated into a serious hit-and-run collision last weekend.

In a news release issued Saturday, officials say officers responded at around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at a home in Brampton.

Police previously said the incident happened near Pearson Road and Charolais Boulevard, north of Steeles Avenue West and west of McLaughlin Road South.

The incident, they allege, began as a road-rage dispute, during which the driver followed the victim to a nearby residence, “shouted obscenities and made racially charged comments,” and then struck the victim with his vehicle.

Investigators say the victim was dragged about five metres before the driver fled.

The pedestrian was taken to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

As a result, the Hate Crime Unit arrested 22-year-old Nicolai Tindiris, of Brampton, who is charged with:

• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Aggravated Assault
• Failure to Stop After Accident Causing Bodily Harm
• Obstruct Peace Officer

None of the charges have been tested in court but police say he was held for a bail hearing at a Brampton court.
