WB Hwy. 401 fully closed in Oshawa after collision results in diesel spill

Westbound Highway 401 is fully closed in Oshawa after a multi-vehicle collision involving a commercial truck resulted in a diesel spill.

It happened near Harmony Road at around 9:10 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police say three vehicles were involved and that one driver sustained minor injuries. .

The truck spilled diesel across all westbound lanes and a full cleanup is required, says the OPP.

Westbound Hwy. 401 is currently closed at Courtice Road.

“As it stands right now the 401 westbound is just at a standstill from approaching the 418 out towards Courtice Road where crews have shut down the highway,” CP24 traffic specialist Meital Sperling said. “If that is the route you want to take your best bet is to bail off at Bowmanville Avenue as well as Holt Road, head up to the 418 and make your way up to Hwy. 2 as well as Hwy. 407, which thankfully is free out in the Durham Region.”

Police say that they expect the highway to reopen in time for the afternoon rush.
