Skate of the Art: Megadeth guitarist shreds the ice at Meewasin during tour stop

Legendary thrash metal band Megadeth was in Saskatoon last week on a tour promote the release of its final album, an eponymous 17th record that the band says will be its last.

But apparently the SaskTel Centre wasn’t the only local venue to showcase the Los Angeles band’s signature brand of cynical speed metal and blazing fretwork.

That afternoon, guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari laced up his skates and strapped on his Gibson Explorer to show Saskatoon he can walk and chew gum at the same time.

In a music video posted to YouTube, Mäntysaari — obviously a seasoned skater — blasts through the solos from Let There Be Shred (a cut from their latest record), as he skates backwards around a mostly empty Meewasin rink.

It doesn’t appear the cold slowed down his frettin’ hand. You can watch the video in the player below:
