Saskatoon police responded to 22 collisions since Thursday evening as the city saw its first snowfall of the season. In a news release Friday morning police said the crashes were minor, and happened after 5 p.m. Thursday as rain and snow created slick road conditions. Police are asking drivers to slow down, clear snow and ice from their vehicles, increase following distances and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. City crews began de-icing roads Thursday afternoon, applying salt and sand to priority routes. Sixteen sanders were deployed to manage icy conditions, along with six sidewalk plows to help ensure safe pedestrian travel. “With temperatures hovering close to freezing, slick spots have developed in some areas,” the city said. “Crews continue to focus on Circle Drive and other Priority 1 routes to help maintain safe access across the city.” Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a 30 per cent chance of light snow Friday through the night with temperatures expected to dip to minus 13 C.
