Lightning strike blamed for house fire

A lightning strike ignited a fire in the attic of a home at 1918 20th Street West Thursday evening.

A lightning strike from a storm that rolled through Saskatoon overnight Thursday is being blamed for a fire at a home in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood.

Multiple 911 calls sent Saskatoon firefighters to a home in the 1900 block of 20th Street West where smoke was coming  from the attic and eaves of the house. Fire crews extinguished the fire and checked the home to ensure the fire had not spread.

The three occupants of the house got out safely. A damage estimate was not available.

In addition to the fire, the storm caused power outages in several areas of the city. Lightning strikes were responsible for some of the outages, while downed power lines also cut power in some areas, according to the City of Saskatoon.
