David Ash, the man behind Dash Tours, and sports super fan, has died after a long fight with cancer.

Ash’s passing was announced on the Dash Tours Facebook page Sunday morning.

Known throughout the Queen City and Saskatchewan as a devoted Roughriders and Oilers fan, Ash was devoted to the teams he loved. He even donned the Gainer the Gopher mascot costume on Taylor Field.

Ash turned his passion into his career when he created Dash Tours, a company that brought fans to some of the biggest sporting and concert events in Canada.

Ash also had a brush with fame at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver when he snuck in a giant Canadian flag to the gold medal hockey game. He handed the flag over to the Canadian team and it was quickly snatched up by Sydney Crosby and Roberto Luongo. He later donated the flag to the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame.

A memorial will be held at Regina Funeral Home on March 4.
