It’s being billed as the largest independent wrestling show ever staged in Kitchener. SLAMDEMONIUM 2 is taking place at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium this Saturday and event organizers are anticipating a crowd of nearly 1,000. “The smallest crowd I wrestled in front of is six people, probably most of them not paid, and here we are, hopefully close to a thousand people, so it’s going to be good,” said veteran Wrestler “Daddy” Andrew Davis. The event is organized by Off the Ropes Studio, a local wrestling school and promotion located in Kitchener. For current Off the Ropes Women’s champion Sydney Wild Wild West, it’s the opportunity of a life time. “It all started when I was about 11 years old, I saw wrestling on the TV and became instantly obsessed,” West said. SLAMDEMONIUM 2 will feature local wrestlers alongside some big names from the United States, like Rhyno and former WWE Divas champion Victoria Crawford. In the biggest match of her career, West will be taking on Crawford on Saturday. “It means everything to get that opportunity to wrestle someone like Victoria Crawford and really get to prove myself, it means the world,” West said, who at 19, has already been wrestling for 2 years. The event is also a fundraiser. After SLAMDEMONIUM 1 raised $8,000 for Kids Ability, this year Off the Ropes Studio is pledging $10,000 to the local organization. As of Wednesday, there were still some tickets available, but Off the Ropes is anticipating a sellout, and they say planning for SLAMDEMONIUM 3 has already begun.
