Coins will no longer be accepted to park in downtown Regina

Regina is moving to a fully cashless parking system, with instructions posted on meters to guide drivers to the new pay-by-phone process.

Starting this weekend, Regina residents who park downtown will no longer have the option to use coins.

On March 1, the City of Regina will transition to PayByPhone as the only payment option.

According to an update on Wednesday, bags with instructions on the new process will be placed over existing meters downtown to prevent people trying to pay with coins.

Posted time limits and other parking regulations will remain in effect, according to the city, and payment will still be required when a meter is covered.

Regina residents will still be able to pay for parking using the PayByPhone app, online at PayByPhone.com or by calling 1-888-680-7275.

The City of Regina says the removal of coin payment for downtown parking was approved through 2026-27 budget deliberations, which supported the move towards more efficient digital service options.
