Police are investigating after an act of vandalism caused damage at a local fairgrounds, placing an unnecessary burden on the volunteers who work hard to maintain the community property. According to a social media post shared by the Severn Bridge Agricultural Society, doors were kicked in and locks were broken off both the Senior Hall and the Secretary’s Booth located on the Severn Bridge Fairgrounds. Organizers at the Southwood Road location say the damage has left them in limbo. “This kind of damage is simply not acceptable. It takes a tremendous amount of time, volunteer effort and money to repair these senseless acts—resources that should be going toward improving our fairgrounds and hosting great community events,” the organization said over social media. Volunteers are asking the community to help protect the property by reporting any suspicious activity. “We ask everyone to please respect the fairgrounds. If you see any suspicious activity, please report it.” The Severn Bridge Agricultural Society also confirmed that they have notified police and will install security cameras on the property. The OPP told CTV News it is investigating and is asking anyone with information to come forward. Despite the setback, volunteers remain committed to keeping the fairgrounds a welcoming place. The Severn Bridge Fairgrounds is home to the beloved annual Severn Bridge Fall Fair, which is celebrating its 151st year in the fall.
