Supporters gather outside American embassy following the U.S. and Israel’s strikes in Iran

A group of protestors gathered near the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa to show their support for the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran. CTV’s Austin Lee reports.

A large group of demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa on Saturday to celebrate the United States and Israel’s recent attack on Iran.

“Everyone’s cheering up. Everyone’s happy. Everyone’s proud of their nation,” Ash Noori, a volunteer who helped organize the rally, told CTV News.

“They’re thankful and they’re grateful of the United States, President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for finally standing with people on the delivery of their promises.”

The U.S. and Israel launched a major attack on Iran on Saturday. Israeli officials and U.S. President Donald Trump say Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has died.

There have been many demonstrations in Ottawa and across the country this year calling for regime change in the country and greater support for the people of Iran.

While there is plenty of optimism within Ottawa’s Iranian community, Noori says the recent developments also bring about mixed emotions.

“That’s the part that’s actually terrifying, because my mom right now, is in Iran. My mother-in-law is in Iran, and I have a bunch of family and friends in Iran,” he said.

Noori says he would like to see the Canadian government recognize Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi as the transitional leader.
