One of Canada’s most influential think tanks is honouring a Saskatchewan family. The Fraser Institute is presenting the Semple family with its highest honour, the Institute’s Founders’ Award, presented annually to an individual in recognition of ‘exceptional entrepreneurial achievements, generous philanthropic endeavours, and dedication to competitive markets.’ “Every year, the Fraser Institute celebrates the stories of Canada’s most influential and successful entrepreneurs and innovators who have fundamentally changed the landscape in their respective sectors,” said Niels Veldhuis, President of the Fraser Institute, in a news release. “The Semple family’s success has created thousands of jobs, generated billions in economic activity, and strengthened Canada’s position in global industrial markets and we are very proud to honour the family this year.” Semple-owned Brandt Tractor Ltd. has more than 170 locations worldwide, and the family also owns the Regina Pats, Regina Red Sox, and a large portion of Regina’s REAL District. The Brandt Group of Companies is also Saskatchewan’s largest privately-held company, with more than 6,000 employees worldwide. An event to honour the Semple family will be held June 18 in Regina.
