Winnipeg now under heat warning

Spring has finally sprung in Manitoba, with several communities expected to feel the heat this week, including Winnipeg.

On Wednesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a yellow warning – heat for several communities, including Brandon and Winkler.

Winnipeg was added to the warning Wednesday afternoon.

According to the weather agency, these communities are expected to reach daytime highs in the low-to-mid 30s with overnight lows in the high teens for the remainder of the week.

ECCC reminds the public to take action against the risks of extreme heat, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The weather agency recommends drinking lots of water, closing blinds, turning on air conditioning and scheduling outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day.

ECCC also suggests limiting direct sun exposure, wearing lightweight clothing, and checking on family, friends and neighbours.
