Rainfall warning ended for Ottawa on Monday, more rain expected Tuesday

It’s a rainy and mild start to the work week in Ottawa, with heavy rain expected today.

Environment Canada had issued a yellow warning – rainfall for Ottawa on Monday, calling for an additional 10 to 20 mm of rain.

“Rain, heavy at times continues. The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

“After a break in the precipitation later today, another round of heavy rain may affect the region Tuesday,” Environment Canada said.

The rainfall warning ended at around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Ottawa received 16.4 mm of rain on Sunday, with rain continuing on Monday.

The forecast calls for showers ending this afternoon then cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High 18 C.

It will be cloudy tonight with a 40 per cent chance of evening showers. Low 6 C.

Tuesday will start cloudy with showers beginning in the morning. There is a risk of a thunderstorm. High 14 C.

Wednesday will see mainly cloudy conditions with a 60 per cent chance of rain. High 17 C.

The outlook for Thursday calls for periods of rain. High 18 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected on Friday with a 30 per cent chance of showers. High 20 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 11 C and a low of 1 C.

Ottawa River

The heavy rain is expected to cause water levels to rise along the Ottawa River.

The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board says water levels should increase from Lake Coulonge down to the Montreal area.

“Minor flooding in low-lying areas may occur into the weekend. Low-lying areas (such as recreational trails near water) are those locations that regularly flood during the spring freshet period,” the board said.
