A patient at Bruyère Health in Ottawa had his dream come true to experience a heavy metal concert. Canadian power metal band ‘The Scepter’ and Dominion Tavern helped create the unforgettable experience” for 27-year-old Tim Berry. “When a patient shared his dream of experiencing a heavy metal concert, our team worked with some incredible community partners to make it happen,” Bruyère Health said in a social media post. “Sometimes the best medicine is a little live music.” “We painted his nails black. He had his heavy metal t-shirt on, and they rocked out for him. Tim was really blissed out by it,” Roshene Lawson, Bruyère Health clinical chaplain, told CTV News Ottawa. The concert was a first for her as a chaplain. “It’s not unusual for us to think outside the box, but heavy metal was never on my playbook when I started here,” Lawson said. With Berry medically unable to attend a concert, the concert went to him at Bruyère Health. “It was a beautiful thing,” says Scott McClinton of the Dominion Tavern, who helped put everything together for the show. “We found a band, found a lighting and sound technician, and I had all of the equipment just right here waiting to go.” “If you’re going to do a heavy metal show, you got to give them the full 100 per cent. You can’t, you know, dial it back. You got to take it to 11,” said Josh Collins, guitarist and writer with The Scepter. “Instantly, I was honoured. Warmed my heart that they thought of us. And I told the guys right away, and everyone was immediately on board.” An emotional moment and show for many in the room, “We were happy to have our sunglasses on,” says Collins. “I had nurses coming up to me after and hugging me and tearing up and saying, I’m so glad Tim got to have this,” adds Lawson. McClinton says everything was donated and the concert was free.
