Environment Canada is warning Ottawa residents of extremely cold temperatures on Sunday that could cause frostbite. The organization issued a yellow warning – cold for the Ottawa area, stating that a period of very cold wind chills between -30 and -35 are expected overnight on Sunday and early Monday morning. “Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside,” Environment Canada wrote. “Keep moving to maintain your body heat and seek shelter from the wind.” Environment Canada says risks are greatest for young children, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, those working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Forecast Overnight temperatures are expected to near -30 C in Ottawa on Sunday. According to Environment Canada’s weather forecast, Sunday will be sunny, but cold. The daytime temperature will reach a high of -12 C, with a windchill of -22. The evening will be especially frigid, with an expected low of -28 C, and a wind chill of -33. Monday will also be sunny but cold, with a temperature high of -9 C. The chilly weather should prove to be short-lived however, as the temperature is expected to hop above 0 C on Tuesday, and remain there throughout the week. Tuesday, expect a cloudy day with a temperature high of 2 C. Wednesday, expect a sunny day with temperatures reaching 5 C.
