High winds in Edmonton on forced the Heritage Festival to shut down early on Sunday afternoon. Tents were in poor condition and some were blowing away according to a post to social media by festival organizers. Festivalgoers were told to evacuate Hawrelak Park. Mayor Andrew Knack will be making an announcement Monday morning on strengthening the final day of the Heritage Festival. Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Edmonton and surrounding communities, saying the winds could reach up to 90 km/h. “Local utility outages are possible,” said the warning. “Some property damage is possible.” The agency also said trees may be more vulnerable to damage due to recent heavy rainfall and saturated soil.
