One person was arrested following a shooting in a northern Manitoba First Nations community that prompted a community-wide lockdown this weekend. Pimicikamak Cree Nation Chief David Monias said in a social media post late Saturday night that one person was arrested, and the lockdown was lifted later in the day Sunday. “I know it was not easy. I know it asked a lot of you. But you trusted us, and you trusted each other and because of that, we are emerging stronger today,” Monias wrote on social media. “Your cooperation was not just compliance to the lockdown; it was an act of love. And I see that. I feel that. We all do.” Manitoba RCMP confirmed an arrest was made, but no charges have been laid, as the major crimes section is still investigating. RCMP said the investigation started after officers were notified about a man on the road with serious injuries Friday night. When they arrived, they found a 42-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, along with another man who was not harmed. The injured man was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the lockdown and investigation, all events scheduled as part of Treaty and Indian Days were cancelled and residents were urged to stay inside.
