The body of a man who had been missing for two weeks was found in the St Lawrence River, near Marsoui, in the Gaspé Peninsula–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region, shortly before 10.30 am on Sunday morning. The Sûreté du Québec was alerted to the discovery of the body by a member of the public. The victim was subsequently identified as Pepito Labador, a 45-year-old man from Montreal who had been reported missing since 19 July. Two days earlier, the emergency services had been called out following reports that two people had been seen in distress on the River Saint-Laurent, in the Marsoui area, near kilometre 914 of Route 132. According to information gathered by the Sûreté du Québec, the two men were fishing at the end of a rocky outcrop when one of them reportedly lost his footing and fell into the water. The second man then reportedly attempted to come to his aid before being swept away by the current himself. Both men died in the accident.
