Ottawa police seeking to ID suspect in Canada Day robbery

The Ottawa Police Service is looking for help identifying a suspect in a robbery and assault on Canada Day.

Police say a suspect entered a store on Merivale Road near Woodward Avenue at around 10:09 a.m. on July 1, selected several items and walked out.

“Outside, the suspect went to steal some alcohol when he was approached by staff. The suspect assaulted the staff and escaped with the stolen products on an e-scooter,” police said in a news release.

Police describe the suspect as a white man in his mid 20s to early 30s, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 (167 to 178 cm), with long, brown hair in a ponytail and a dark beard. At the time of the reported incident, he was wearing a yellow button-up shirt, black shorts, reading glasses, white running shoes, a backpack and a cross-body bag.
