Giant duck is up in Brockville

Giant rubber duck arrives in Brockville Tens of thousands expected to descend on Brockville to see the world’s biggest rubber duck.

The giant rubber duck touring Ontario has arrived in Brockville where it will complete its six week journey.

The colourful and contentious attraction is towering over Brockville’s skyline until Sunday evening at the Rails to Trails festival. This is the sixth stop for the duck after starting the tour July first in Toronto.

Often found in the water, the duck is sitting on land this time around due to weather conditions. Organizers say it is easier to keep her from moving around on ground.

Measuring six storey’s high and weighing 13 tonnes, the duck is said to be the largest in the world. It takes six to eight workers to install the duck, and roughly three to four hours to fully inflate it.

Officials with Ontario 150 say the duck has attracted 1 million visitors so far. Another 40-thousand are estimated to come view it in Brockville.

The Ontario government supported the duck with a $120 thousand festival grant.
