UCCM police lay multiple firearm charges in Whitefish River First Nation

UCCM Anishnaabe Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in Whitefish First Nation after reports of an armed man approaching homes. He faces 22 charges.

A 39-year-old local man is facing more than two dozen charges after a reported break-and-enter and multiple sightings of an individual carrying a handgun in Whitefish River First Nation.

UCCM Anishnaabe police say officers were dispatched to a residence on Feb. 26, following a report of a break and enter in progress.

“Police received information that the suspect was allegedly in possession of a handgun during the incident,” police said in a news release.

“Additional reports were received of a male walking along Maple Heights Drive while carrying what was believed to be a handgun and attending multiple residences in the area.”

Officers attended the scene immediately and initiated an investigation.

As a result, the local man taken into custody and charged.

The accused faces various charges – including assault with a weapon, four counts of carrying a concealed weapon, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of using a firearm while committing an offence. Additionally, the man is charged with pointing a firearm, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, two counts of breaking and entering a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence and mischief.

He also faces charges of failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order and eight other firearm and probation-related offences.

The accused was held in custody pending future court appearances.
