Firefighters in Timmins responded to a fire in a three-storey multi-residential building Aug. 18 around 3:46 p.m. at the corner of Bruce Avenue and Crawford Street. “Crews from Stations 2, 4, and 5 were dispatched to the scene,” officials said in a news release Aug. 19. “Arriving unit reported heavy black smoke coming from the building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and worked to clear the building and remaining hot spots and smoke.” All the tenants were evacuated and no injuries were reported. “Some residents were displaced as a result of the fire and received assistance from the Canadian Red Cross,” the release said. No cause has been determined, but the investigation is continuing by the fire prevention division. “The Timmins Fire Department reminds residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their home and outside all sleeping areas,” the release said. “Residents should also have a home escape plan that includes a designated meeting place and practice the plan with everyone in their household.”
