Bluewater Health has received its largest individual donation in the hospital foundation’s history, with $5 million from The Gordon Foundation set to support cardiac care and other patient needs. The donation includes $2 million for the development of future cardiac care services at Bluewater Health and $3 million to establish a permanent endowment for the hospital’s highest-priority needs. The donation will also result in the hospital’s London Building being renamed the Gordon Family Patient Care Building. New signage is expected to be installed in November. The Gordon Foundation endowment is expected to generate ongoing funding for patient care, to support the hospital and community for years to come. Bluewater Health says the $2-million cardiac investment will help strengthen and expand local services as the Sarnia-Lambton community grows and ages. “As our community grows and ages, we know the need for cardiac care closer to home will continue to grow with it,” said Dr. Mike Haddad, chief of staff and vice-president of medical affairs at Bluewater Health. The hospital says the goal is to allow more patients to access advanced cardiac care locally instead of travelling outside Sarnia-Lambton. Ron Gordon of The Gordon Foundation said the family is honoured to invest in the hospital’s future. “We are honoured to make this investment in its future and help ensure that patients and families can continue to receive excellent care close to home for generations to come,” Gordon said.
