Police on Manitoulin Island seize cocaine, charge two in drug bust

Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service say too many offenders in the community are failing to comply with release conditions and often end up reoffending.

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service seized cocaine and cash in a drug bust early morning after acting on investigative leads.

On April 16, officers confiscated an undisclosed quantity of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $20,000, along with $375 in cash, according to a news release.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Wiikwemkoong, face drug trafficking charges.

The woman was additionally charged with resisting a peace officer and abandoning a child.

This investigation is a part of the police service’s drug enforcement strategy and offender management program.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
