The otters at the Vancouver Aquarium had to choose a winner for Thursday’s highly anticipated FIFA World Cup matchup between Canada and Qatar, and it seems they favour the home team. Video from the aquarium shows five Northern Sea Otters gathered in front of the two countries’ flags, both painted with clam paste. The otters seemed unsure at first, toying with both before making a decision. The cohort eventually flipped over the Qatar-flagged clam paste creation before gathering in front of the Canadian one, seemingly making their choice. According to TSN, Canada is the heavy favourite. Team captain Alphonso Davies’ availability remains unknown heading into the match, as he’s been dealing with an injury he suffered while playing for Bayern Munich in May. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday.
