Pair charged with assaulting person who lived in Sault residence they planned to rob

Two people who were overheard making plans to rob a residence in Sault Ste. Marie have been charged with assaulting the person who tried to stop them.

The incident took place Thursday evening at a residence on Andrew Street. The victim called 911 around 10:50 p.m.

“Although the suspects had left the scene prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed the victims heard the two suspects, who were later identified as the accused, outside the residence talking about breaking in,” Sault police said in a news release Friday.

Held down and beaten

“When one of the victims confronted them, they were held down by the first accused and struck multiple times by the second accused.”

“When the victim ran back into their residence, the second accused followed them inside, before being forced out by the victims. The victims and accused were not known to one another.”

Police arrived and located both suspects, arresting them on Cathcart Street.

Two men, ages 33 and 35, have been charged with assault. The 33-year-old was also charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling.

Both were released and are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10.
