A 31-year-old driver from Selkirk, Man., has been charged with stunt driving after police in northwestern Ontario say they stopped a speeding vehicle with an unrestrained child inside. The incident occurred around 11:54 p.m. on Aug. 19 in Schreiber, Ont., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release. Officers “conducting traffic enforcement … observed a white Chrysler Pacifica travelling at 113 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone,” police said. Lying down in the backseat “After stopping the vehicle, the officer observed a three-year-old child not properly secured in a child seatbelt. The officer also observed two adult passengers lying in the rear of the vehicle, not occupying positions equipped with seatbelts.” The two adult passengers, ages 22 and 30, also of Selkirk, were charged with not wearing seatbelts. The driver was charged with stunt driving and failing to ensure a toddler was properly secured. The driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for two weeks. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. “The OPP remains committed to taking aggressive drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education,” police said. “If you suspect that someone is driving aggressively, it is important to call 911 to report it.”
