Northern Ont. police patrol catches stunt driver peel out at red light

A 30-year-old from Kapuskasing has been charged with stunt driving in an incident on March 12.

Ontario Provincial Police in Kapuskasing saw two drivers line up at a red light last week in Kapuskasing, but only one sped off when the light turned green.

As a result, a 30-year-old has been charged with stunt driving, police said in a news release Monday.

OPP officers conducting a stationary patrol saw two vehicles travelling in the same direction stopped at the red light around 11 p.m. March 12.

“When the light turned green, one car accelerated aggressively causing its rear tires to spin without control,” police said.

“Police stopped the vehicle a short distance away.”

The 30-year-old driver from Kapuskasing was charged with stunt driving, causing the vehicle’s tires to “spin out of control.”

As a result of the charges, the suspect’s driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for two weeks.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 24 in Kapuskasing.
