Machete used in family dispute on Manitoulin Island

A 19-year-old man has been charged after a family dispute earlier this month in Little Current that involved an attack using weapons that included a machete.

Ontario Provincial Police on Manitoulin Island said they responded around 10 p.m. March 6 to an incident on Howland Street in Little Current.

“Information received indicated that the involved person assaulted another individual in the home, and that the assault involved multiple weapons, including a machete,” the OPP said in a news release March 24.

“Police responded to the area and located the individual on a nearby street, where they were subsequently arrested. The person injured was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

The suspect is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count each of assault causing bodily harm, disobeying a court order and possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 14.
