Fire at unoccupied northern Ont. home leads to arson charge

A 58-year-old Virginiatown man has been charged with arson after a residential fire Oct. 5 in which first responders found a home engulfed in flames.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person following an arson investigation in Virginiatown.

Officers were called to a structure fire on Sunday, October 5, 2026.

Police said that the home was “engulfed in smoke and flames.”

“The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire,” OPP said in a news release on Jan. 28.

The investigation has led to an arson charge against a 58-year-old local man. He faces one count of arson damaging to property.

The accused was remanded into custody with his next court appearance scheduled for Jan. 30 in Kirkland Lake.
