Vehicle set on fire in Montreal, police suspect arson

A vehicle was set on fire in the driveway of a home in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough early Wednesday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 12:30 a.m. about the incident on Lisieux Street near Jean-Talon Street.

“When the police arrived on the scene, they located the vehicle on fire,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “The burned vehicle was a total loss.”

She adds that there was no damage to the property, nor was an incendiary device found.

“According to the first information, everything suggests it’s an arson,” said Chèvrefils, adding the vehicle was towed for expert examination.

There were no reported injuries, and there have been no arrests.

The file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
